Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have been busy the past few days! In science, we have been learning about the primary colours and mixing colours. We have worked with a variety of materials, including: pencil crayons, paint, plasticine and food colouring. Below are some samples of our work:

We did an experiment where we filled 3 beakers with water. We then added red, yellow or blue food colouring to 3 of the beakers. We then added empty beakers between the filled beakers. Finally,  we placed paper towel into a full beaker and placed the other end into an empty beaker. Ask your children what colours appeared in the beakers that had been empty! (HINT: Look at the picture below that has all of the colours😊)

The students each received a few pieces of plasticine in the  primary colours and mixed them together to see what would happen.

We were lucky, because a student brought in the book below to share with the class! It tied in nicely with our colour discussions.

In math, we completed a seasonal sort that was sent home with your child. We have started to work on recognizing, creating, extending and naming AB patterns. Furthermore, we have talked about attributes (this describes what something looks like) as this will help us to name and describe our sorts and patterns.

Have your child complete the pattern below and name it using letters:

On Monday, we wrote in our journals and focused on using our knowledge of letter sounds to
s-t-r-e-t-c-h out unfamiliar words. We have also worked on printing the letter "o" this week and discussed the short sound it makes. Each day we will continue to read our sight word poems to increase our recognition of high frequency words and our fluency!

Requests:
  • We are looking for a few items to complete projects over the next few days. If you have any extra at home, can you please send them in, DO NOT go out and buy anything:)
  • Magazines (that are appropriate for student's to look at.) We will be cutting them up for a science project. Therefore, they will NOT be returned to you.
  • Paper towel tubes (the empty tubes)
    • Please help your child to collect 3 leaves to bring into school on Monday.

    Reminders:
    • Parent/ Teacher conferences are this Thursday evening and Friday morning.
    • There is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, September 22 or on Monday, September 25.

Dear parents and guardians, Sorry for the long delay in putting up a new post. This time of year is very busy! As always, our students have had many awesome learning experiences in the last couple of weeks. In language arts, we... - worked on our journals (students should be able to ... write 8-10 sentences, edit for proper use of periods and capitals, spell their sight words correctly, add description instead of just listing events, and use juicy descriptive words). - continued our literacy centres (read with me, buddy read, phonics books, reading comprehension pages, iPads and writing). The students are always excited for literacy centres and are showing a love of reading already. A love for reading is SO important! - wrote our letters to home. At this point in time, you should be seeing your child attempt all of the things that are listed under expectations for journal writing. - finished our second class chapter book called "Tigers at Twilight". Ask your child abo...

Dear Parents/Guardians, Inline Skating : Our class will be skating on  March 20, 21 and 22 . If you wish, you may send your child's helmet to school on Monday, March 19 and it can stay in our classroom for the week. At this point in time, we do not require parent volunteers as the Leadership Club from Kenneth D. Taylor will be supporting students with getting their gear on.     Request: We are going to be starting our science unit on Building Things in the next few weeks. It is a really fun unit, but it requires lots of materials. Therefore, we are requesting your help!   If you have any of the following items that are empty and clean, please send them with your child to school.   ·        Kleenex boxes ·        Cereal boxes ·        Yogurt cups ·        Shoe boxes ·        Toilet p...

Dear Parents and Guardians, Here is an update from the CBE regarding the winter weather warning: We have had a jam packed week of learning so far! We are continuing to work on our sight words. Seeing as we are about half way through the year, students should be able to recite at least 50 of the first 100 words quickly (2 seconds or less) . Students are making great progress in this area and it is really helping them with their reading and writing. One Monday, we worked on our journals. Here are some examples: We began story writing this week in regards to our missing gingerbread people (that have all been found!).  As a class, we worked on an introduction. Like good writers to, we then went back and edited our work for proper punctuation as well as re-worded things that did not make sense. Our class is really focusing on independently making edits to their work by circling the word that they want to edit and writing the edit above. We have...
