Dear parents and guardians,

We have had a very busy week! We got a lot of our work in progress finished and are beginning some new writing activities. We have continued to work on our sight words and poems. The sight words that we have learned so far are:

- the
- of
- and
- a
- to
- in
- is
- you
- that
- it
- he
- was
- for
- on
- are
- as
- with
- his
- they
- I
- at
- be
- this
- have
- from
- or
- one
- had
- by
words
- but
- not
- what
- all.

This week we finished up our descriptive writing about pumpkins. We are excited to put them up on our bulletin boards in the hall along with the art that we have been working on. Have your child locate the "juicy", or descriptive words in each of the following:

Some of the students have finished their pumpkin art projects while others are still working to complete the more complex project. In both projects, we focused on perspective and how the way the lines can create different effects. Here are some examples of each:

We also began our newest wall story this week, which is based on Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". We have only finished one page, but the students worked very hard on them and are very proud of the work they have done on them so far. Here are a couple of examples. Ask your child to point out the descriptive language in each.

We have really been working hard over the course of the year to stretch out or words so we can hear all of the sounds. We have been focusing on beginning and end sounds, and then filling in the letters in between. See if your child can read these words to you:

In social studies, we discussed the word "belonging". We asked students to describe the groups that they belong to. Ask your child what groups they believe that they belong to!

Reminder:

- School Photos came home this week. The deadline to order photos is November 18th.

Dear parents and guardians, Sorry for the long delay in putting up a new post. This time of year is very busy! As always, our students have had many awesome learning experiences in the last couple of weeks. In language arts, we... - worked on our journals (students should be able to ... write 8-10 sentences, edit for proper use of periods and capitals, spell their sight words correctly, add description instead of just listing events, and use juicy descriptive words). - continued our literacy centres (read with me, buddy read, phonics books, reading comprehension pages, iPads and writing). The students are always excited for literacy centres and are showing a love of reading already. A love for reading is SO important! - wrote our letters to home. At this point in time, you should be seeing your child attempt all of the things that are listed under expectations for journal writing. - finished our second class chapter book called "Tigers at Twilight". Ask your child abo...

Dear Parents/Guardians, Inline Skating : Our class will be skating on  March 20, 21 and 22 . If you wish, you may send your child's helmet to school on Monday, March 19 and it can stay in our classroom for the week. At this point in time, we do not require parent volunteers as the Leadership Club from Kenneth D. Taylor will be supporting students with getting their gear on.     Request: We are going to be starting our science unit on Building Things in the next few weeks. It is a really fun unit, but it requires lots of materials. Therefore, we are requesting your help!   If you have any of the following items that are empty and clean, please send them with your child to school.   ·        Kleenex boxes ·        Cereal boxes ·        Yogurt cups ·        Shoe boxes ·        Toilet p...

Dear Parents and Guardians, Here is an update from the CBE regarding the winter weather warning: We have had a jam packed week of learning so far! We are continuing to work on our sight words. Seeing as we are about half way through the year, students should be able to recite at least 50 of the first 100 words quickly (2 seconds or less) . Students are making great progress in this area and it is really helping them with their reading and writing. One Monday, we worked on our journals. Here are some examples: We began story writing this week in regards to our missing gingerbread people (that have all been found!).  As a class, we worked on an introduction. Like good writers to, we then went back and edited our work for proper punctuation as well as re-worded things that did not make sense. Our class is really focusing on independently making edits to their work by circling the word that they want to edit and writing the edit above. We have...
