Dear parents and guardians,

I am back in full force, hopefully for good this time! Feeling much better and healing up! The students have been very resilient over the past 2 weeks, working diligently even on days where I was absent. Way to go grade ones!

Just a reminder to please send back all home reading and library books if you have not done so already. We will not be doing any more book exchanges or sending home any new home reading books this year. The Raz-Kids accounts remain active so this may be a good tool to use to keep your kids reading at home :).

This week we have continued to work hard on our writing during journals and letters to home. The expectations for editing continue to rise with students being expected to notice errors in capitalization, punctuation, and spelling of sight words. They should also be checking to see if they have used their blends and digraphs and if there are any spots where they should be adding some descriptive language.

We have learned a TON of science concepts this week. Ask your child what the following words mean:

- camoflage
- herbivore
- carnivore
- omnivore
- consumer
- producer
- food chain

In math, we have continued to work on addition and subtraction and solving word problems. Students should be able to pick out key information from word problems and decide whether to add or subtract. They should be showing their work, either using a picture or another way that works for them.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather. Thank you again for your patience over the past couple weeks!

Dear Parents/Guardians, Inline Skating : Our class will be skating on  March 20, 21 and 22 . If you wish, you may send your child's helmet to school on Monday, March 19 and it can stay in our classroom for the week. At this point in time, we do not require parent volunteers as the Leadership Club from Kenneth D. Taylor will be supporting students with getting their gear on.     Request: We are going to be starting our science unit on Building Things in the next few weeks. It is a really fun unit, but it requires lots of materials. Therefore, we are requesting your help!   If you have any of the following items that are empty and clean, please send them with your child to school.   ·        Kleenex boxes ·        Cereal boxes ·        Yogurt cups ·        Shoe boxes ·        Toilet p...

September 26th

Dear Parents and Guardians,   We have had a very busy week of learning so far. On Monday morning, we started our day by writing in our journals. The students were challenged to write about one event from their weekend with lots of detail. They were also asked to create more than one sentence. Mrs. Witczak and I are VERY IMPRESSED with the progress we have seen in our student's journal writing over the past month. Here are a few examples from September: Here are some examples from this week: Here are all of the sight words we have learned so far this year. At this point in time, your child should be able to quickly read and correctly spell each of the words. When working on the words at home, please ensure you practice them in a different order each day:)                             1. the                  11. he ...
